Everyone is looking for wrinkle treatments in LA, and Restylane is one of the best options out there. Learn more about Restylane in this FAQ section.
Restylane is a clear, transparent viscous gel injected into the skin to smooth wrinkles, sculpt the lips and add volume to areas of the face that have lost fat over time, like the cheeks or under the eyes. Restylane consists of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance already present in the body. Hyaluronic acid gives volume to the skin, lubricates the joints and gives the eyes their shape. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane is stabilized for long duration and is not animal based.
Thus, there is no risk of transmitted disease or allergic reactions. Restylane is not a substitute for surgical procedures, but is often used by Dr.Matrix when a patient wants to get significant improvements such as lip enhancement, cheek augmentation, reduction of under eye dark circles or smoothing wrinkles without going under the knife.
Restylane is most commonly used for lip enhancement, diminishing wrinkles and shaping facial contours. The process is most effective in the glabellar lines (between the eyebrows), the nasolabial folds (from the root of the nose to the angle of the mouth), the cheeks and the lips. However, the treatment is not only limited to these areas. Dr.Matrix has been one of a group of physicians pioneering the use of Restylane under the eyes to eliminate dark circles. She is currently amongst the most experienced practitioners in using this filler in the nation.
At Dr.Matrix, injections are administered in the doctor’s office by licensed and very experienced professional injectors. Initially, your doctor may select one or more injection points for each location to be treated. Once selected, tiny amounts of the crystal-clear Restylane gel is injected beneath the skin with a very fine needle. The gel produces volume under the affected area, lifting and smoothing wrinkles. When enhancing lips or facial contours, the process adds volume and shape. Typically the treatment takes less than half an hour, although this may vary depending on the area targeted and the correction you wish to have performed.
At Dr.Matrix our staff is committed in providing the most comfortable and pain free experience possible. The majority of people find injections relatively painless because we always apply a topical anesthetic cream to the treated area prior to the procedure. We also use ice and distraction techniques to minimize discomfort. For lip enhancement procedures, a local anesthetic injection can be given to numb the lips completely.
The results from your Restylane treatment can be seen immediately. Directly after the treatment there may be some mild swelling and patients are advised to stay out of the sun. This discomfort is temporary and expected, disappearing in a matter of a day or so. In the case of lip treatment, the lips may become mildly swollen the night of the procedure, slightly bumpy or look rather uneven. This can persist for a few days but will resolve quickly, resulting in astonishing, beautiful results.
The length of time the effect of a Restylane treatment lasts depends on the individual. Many factors such as skin structure, lifestyle and age can determine the duration. In most areas, Restylane lasts for about six months although under the eyes it tends to last several years.
Restylane is safe for everyone to use. Patients who have recently undergone other facial treatments such as laser treatment or chemical peeling are recommended to wait until the treated area is totally healed and the skin is normalized before undergoing a Restylane treatment. This usually takes around two weeks. Side effects are extremely rare, and if experienced typically resolve spontaneously within a few days. As of yet, no connection has been made between patients with allergies and a sensitivity reaction to Restylane.
During the first couple of days after your treatment, do not massage or rub the treated area. We advise that if you have had lip enhancement that you avoid puckering your lips or drinking hot liquids as much as possible for the first two days following your treatment. Intense heat or extreme cold can affect the treated areas before the initial swelling and redness after your treatment has been resolved. Swelling can be countered by using Arnica Montana, and Tylenol can be used for any soreness. Dr.Matrix has seen benefit to using Ibuprofen if there is any residual swelling or soreness.
The most common reason for disappointment is that an inadequate volume of Restylane has been injected. In this case, further injections will improve results. In the rare case of overcorrection, or that you are completely unsatisfied with the results of the treatment, Restylane can always be dissolved with the injection of a safe, naturally occurring enzyme. We will also use the enzyme in the rare cases where bumps occur. Injecting a small amount of the enzyme can reduce the bump without dissolving the rest of the Restylane.
